Continuity Editing

Continuity Editing
Continuity editing is used to make everything flow in orderly and smooth manner . It's used to make sure everything makes sense to the viewer . Sometimes these rules are broken and go unnoticed to the spectator but if the rules are broken many times the film might not make sense

180 Degree rule

This is a diagram showing the 180 degree rule . The rule is used normally to avoid confusion for the spectator . It is an essential element for continuity editing .

Eye Line match

Eye line match is where the eyes of the characters meet so the audience know what the characters are looking at . For example in the diagram above the first character is shown looking at another character and then it cuts to the other character to show the spectator at what the character is looking at . This makes everything much more clearer for the spectator

Match on Action
Match on action is used to show what happens from one shot to another . This is used so the spectator knows what is happening and where it is happening . If match on action is used wrongly and incorrectly the scene may not make any sense to the spectator .
