Final

In the last few weeks I have been editing my final edit to make it look sharp and good from all the work this is what I got :

This is my final timeline as you can see I have blue and pink clips the clips in pink are the ones that have been linked with adobe after effects to either be stabilised or to have visual effects added onto them. The green soundtracks are tracks that I have gotten from Audiomicro.com which lets people use the soundtrack.

Screenshots & Explanation of After Effects

This is my adobe after effects composition for the icing effect as you can see I used rotobrush tool to get the effect I wanted. I done this by making two layers of the original video and adding the rotobrush to the top video layer. After I done this I double clicked the layer and selected the rotobrush tool and started to select the hands on the frame they start touching. Even though the tool is great I had to do this nearly frame by frame as it had faults however the overall process was quite easy .
Later on I added the glow effect and tweaked some settings to get the effect I wanted.

This is my fireball effect where I used the particle playground plugin to make the fireball. It was applied on the white solid which was then replaced by the particle system where I had to apply certain physics like gravity to the particles and choose the type of particle I wanted .
For the glowing effect all I did was duplicate the video file and added a lens flare on top and when motioned did so it went along with the ball .

What I done today 4/2/14

Today I had three lessons of Media where I edited some of the clips . I started by editing the icing effect  and uploaded a before and after version on my blog. I then added some additional sound effects and made few more cuts and took a shot at the start of the sequence which was a mid shot of the reception before Winter enters it.

What went well and What did not go so well

During the process of this project I had things that went very well and some that didn't . One of the things that went well during the editing time was the icing effect in Adobe After Effects as I thought it looked professional and good. Something that didn't go so well was the flying effect as the camera moved during the filming process which made it hard for me to edited as also a person walked in the background who I had to mask out.

To make sure this doesn't happen again I will have to make sure no one walks in the background or distracts the filming process.

Icing effect improvement

In the video above you can see the improvement I made with the icing effect in after effects . From using an image to hue over the video in the improvement I used rotoscoping tool with the glow effect to make him actually glow.

Production Meeting 30/1/2014

People who attended - Caleb , Sharmin , Modestas

From our production meeting we found out that I need to improve some of the sound and dialogue as the music overrides the dialogue at some points however the music was matched and worked well with the sequence. Sharmin needs to spend more time on the special effects also that music matches the actions of the characters . Caleb needs to improve his fire effect and finish off his other effects.

Metadata

Before starting my edit I had to metadata the files so I know what the clip is and if it's good or not this makes it easier for me as I know when I am clicking on the clip if it's bad or not I also know if I have to use it or not.

Rough cut feedback

From both of my feedback sheets I was given some praise some criticism which will help me improve and make my final edit better . For example Curtis said I needed to finish off and improve the effects. Where as Amy said some of the dialogue was taken over by the soundtrack and she couldn't hear it very well.

Use of music in film / Legal issues

Difference between Publishing and Recording rights

Publishing rights

If an artist is independent all the publishing rights go to the artist however if they are not they will have to split with the publisher who distributes the music . Normally the artist would get 70% and the publisher would get 30%.

Recordings rights

Recording rights are controlled by the record label if they want to let someone use a track or an album from there collection .

Can you use music in your sequence if the composer has died ?
You can but you still have to pay for the rights of the music .

What is Incidental music ?
Background music to enhance and develop a certain atmosphere .

Creative Commons

What is creative commons ?
Creative commons helps artists , musician and other creative people to share there art.

Why is it used ?
Creative commons is used regularly because it is the easiest way to license music without needing to pay anything for the artist and allows them to let there music without needing to allow permission.

Types of licence

Attribution - "This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work, even commercially, as long as they credit you for the original creation. This is the most accommodating of licenses offered. Recommended for maximum dissemination and use of licensed materials."

Attribution Share a like - "This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work even for commercial purposes, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms. This license is often compared to “copyleft” free and open source software licenses. All new works based on yours will carry the same license, so any derivatives will also allow commercial use. This is the license used by Wikipedia, and is recommended for materials that would benefit from incorporating content from Wikipedia and similarly licensed projects"

Attribution NoDerivs - "This license allows for redistribution, commercial and non-commercial, as long as it is passed along unchanged and in whole, with credit to you."

Attribution Non-Commercial  - "This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, and although their new works must also acknowledge you and be non-commercial, they don’t have to license their derivative works on the same terms."

Attribution Non-Commercial-Share a like  - "This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms. "

Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derives "This license is the most restrictive of our six main licenses, only allowing others to download your works and share them with others as long as they credit you, but they can’t change them in any way or use them commercially. "
Soundtrack

For my sequence I chose an atmospheric and adventurous soundtrack as I thought it would reflect the main characters personality and the genre of the film.

This is the soundtrack that I have chosen for my sequence :

I have gotten this soundtrack from Audiomicro which is a stock audio library website .
Full link : http://www.audiomicro.com/

And this is the license
To get my information I had to go to : https://creativecommons.org/

Rough cut

Audio

From the rough cut I think the audio was average around 6.5/10 It has a good track running through out the whole sequence which makes it dramatic and has little sound effects like a sweeping sound which make it that much more interesting but there are still a lot of sound effects needed to add to make the video more better .

Special FX

At the moment none of the effects aren fully finished which makes the sequence seem bit weak these will be done over time and improved 1 by 1 until it becomes presentable.

Sequence

At the start of editing I had problems as the sequence and cuts didn't make any sense so I had to change up the order of clips and take out clips that just seemed bad and that would make the sequence worse.

I also had problems with the background noise during the filming of scene 4 which I changed and improved by changing the volumes of the audio tracks.

Sound timeline

Above are my sound timeline for the sequence .
This helps me to know what sounds will be at what points when I am editing and making my sequence.

Filming Day 2 with photos !

In the video above there are some photos from the filming day 2 where we filmed the last scene .

During the filming we had some problems as some people where playing basketball in the courts and where not very happy to move during the filming process however we tried and overcame the problem.

Another issue we had is the sunny weather as some of the shots seemed over exposed even when I changed the exposure and the ISO levels on the camera . This will have to be changed in editing when we are colour grading the clip.

Health and Safety

V health _safety from Modestas Mankus

Also from the talk we were given in class about Health&Safety in college I learned that

- Picnic benches are not made for climbing or skateboarding on them as they are not made for it . They can brake or the person standing on them can slip and severely injure themselves.

- Also learned not to put any wet things on the indoor floor as it is a hazard and people can slip

- Not to climb on trees as you might fall out or won't be able to get down.

- To be careful with the stair as people won't see us filming and may trip.

- It's our responsibility to make it safe for this we will use high visibility jackets and signs sayings 'Filming in Progress' to try and avoid the risks as much as possible.

Problems that may occur and how we will avoid them

Inconveniences
- Location for filming is used by someone else
(ask them to move or come back later)

- Ideas becoming unheard in the group
(Listen more and have a production meeting)

- Disturbing classes during the process of filming the project
(Be considerate don't make huge volume)

Minor and Major problems

- Bad weather
(check the weather forecast few days before hand or film on a different day)

- No costumes
(Buy the costumes)

- Slipping whilst shooting in the corridor or outside
(Be careful)

- Wind interrupting the dialogue
(Wait until it goes away or film on another day)

- Continuity problems when filming on different days for example 'weather' or costume.
(Shoot on the same day or remind the cast to wear the same clothes)

- Rushing into things without thinking of the attributes  quality over quantity .
(Think in more detail and give things more time)

-The editing and the visual effects will take longer than expected
(Watching tutorials before hand and helping each other)

-Quality of the final product to be high quality
(Take high quality shots and retake till we get perfection that we want)

- Getting sued by a brand
(Don't use logos or names in the filming)

- Losing the filming footage
(Have a back up on all the laptops , computers and usb sticks)

- Camera getting dropped and getting broken
(Be careful with it)

- Forgetting to film a shot and only releasing on the final day
(Have a check list to make sure you don't' miss out any shots)

- Cast not turning up on the day of filming
(Have backup cast that would be ready to film and remind the cast)

Production Meeting ( 6th of January 2014)

Time : 9:00

People who attended : Caleb , Sharmin , Modestas

At the start of our production meeting we made a schedule sheet with the timings for our filming .

Caleb : We need to make sure all of the cast are available for the certain dates we choose to film in .

Modestas : I think Wednesday would be the best day to film as we all are free after 10:30 and most of the cast will be free as well .

Sharmin : We can also do saturday but we need to make sure the cast are up for it .

Modestas : We need to make sure we film all the outside shots in one day or the continuity will mess up.

Sharmin : In case we don't have enough time on wednesday we can film on thursday .

Modestas : Sounds good

Caleb : So we finish filming in week 1 and do the rest in the coming weeks which should put us ahead of the schedule.

We also have decided that we will have main roles for each of us that we will master and help each other with .

Modestas - Audio

Caleb - Visual FX

Sharmin - Director

Currently we haven't finished filing in the schedule sheet as we not sure how the filming plan will plan out .

This is a picture of our schedule :

Working between Premiere and After Effects

Knowing how to work Premiere and After effects is very useful for the project we are doing as it will make the workflow much easier and faster .  One of the best ways and the easiest ways to do this is by using the Dynamic Link function . This is because it doesn't need the render function which takes up sometime . This is also good if you want an individual clip edited .

First step is to select the clip on the timeline you want and then right click or ctrl + click on it . This should make a option menu pop up and you want to go and click 'Replace with After Effects Composition'

Now you should be moved to After Effects and box should pop up where you can name the file you are going to be editing .

As you see now the clip is in after effects where you can edited as much as you like .

When you finished editing the clip click cmd + S to save the clip this now allow you to go back to Adobe Premiere with the edited clip .

Now as you see you have your edited clip back into Adobe Premiere without needing to render !

All you have to do now is render by going to File - Export - Media and choosing the format you want to render it in . I recommend Quick Time or H.264.

Improved Photos compared to the old ones (Good vs Bad)

OLD

NEW
The improved shot was much better as we didn't place Sharmin in the middle and gave her space on the right which would suggest she is walking to that side . It also has much more depth than the original shot .

OLD
NEW
The old photo was amateur and looked out of place however on the improved photo I focused it on Sharmin's hair and gave it more depth . The focus also focuses the spectators on Sharmin when she is speaking .

Old
New
For this shot I wanted to make something more different and give it depth so I thought of placing all the characters in the line this brings in much more depth to the shot .

Old
New

The original shot didn't have much effect on the viewer as he looked like an ordinary person just with his hands out . However in the newer and improved version you can clearly see he is shown powerful as we shot him from a low angle rather than a straight on shot mid shot .

Old
New

This shot was harder to improve than the rest as the space had a lot of bins and some lighting problems .
So we had to move the character off from the original spot and shot it high angle which was done by Sharmin standing on a bench . I think this shot also has good depth as it isn't just focused on me .
Old

New
The shot was meant to symmetrical so we had to re shoot as the original was little off . Luckily this time we had a real basketball so we used it which was also meant to be in the original .

6 photos from the Anamatic that are good

I though this shot worked quite well as it was well focused on the character ,
I liked this shot as I though it gave space for the character of Jox to walk into and move . It also suggested that the character of Jox may suggest about playing basketball .

This shot I thought was quite clever as it shows what the characters are focused on and shows clear action to the spectator .

Another shot which  I thought was quite interesting due it's depth and it's composition I mostly like this shot as it is filled in with both of the characters and the background suits it nice .

The composition of this shot is unique and also nice as it shows the people through the characters eyes as if they were with all the characters walking together .

This shot was good as originally it had a lot of people in the background so I took them out of the shot by making Sharmin stand in the middle .

This photo is a close up of her eyes when the character of Winter is talking and thinking which is done in voice over . I think the shot was a clever way to show that she is thinking and not talking out loud .
