Use of music in film / Legal issues

Difference between Publishing and Recording rights

Publishing rights

If an artist is independent all the publishing rights go to the artist however if they are not they will have to split with the publisher who distributes the music . Normally the artist would get 70% and the publisher would get 30%.

Recordings rights

Recording rights are controlled by the record label if they want to let someone use a track or an album from there collection .

Can you use music in your sequence if the composer has died ?
You can but you still have to pay for the rights of the music .

What is Incidental music ?
Background music to enhance and develop a certain atmosphere .

Creative Commons

What is creative commons ?
Creative commons helps artists , musician and other creative people to share there art.

Why is it used ?
Creative commons is used regularly because it is the easiest way to license music without needing to pay anything for the artist and allows them to let there music without needing to allow permission.

Types of licence

Attribution - "This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work, even commercially, as long as they credit you for the original creation. This is the most accommodating of licenses offered. Recommended for maximum dissemination and use of licensed materials."

Attribution Share a like - "This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work even for commercial purposes, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms. This license is often compared to “copyleft” free and open source software licenses. All new works based on yours will carry the same license, so any derivatives will also allow commercial use. This is the license used by Wikipedia, and is recommended for materials that would benefit from incorporating content from Wikipedia and similarly licensed projects"

Attribution NoDerivs - "This license allows for redistribution, commercial and non-commercial, as long as it is passed along unchanged and in whole, with credit to you."

Attribution Non-Commercial  - "This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, and although their new works must also acknowledge you and be non-commercial, they don’t have to license their derivative works on the same terms."

Attribution Non-Commercial-Share a like  - "This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms. "

Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derives "This license is the most restrictive of our six main licenses, only allowing others to download your works and share them with others as long as they credit you, but they can’t change them in any way or use them commercially. "
Soundtrack

For my sequence I chose an atmospheric and adventurous soundtrack as I thought it would reflect the main characters personality and the genre of the film.

This is the soundtrack that I have chosen for my sequence :

I have gotten this soundtrack from Audiomicro which is a stock audio library website .
Full link : http://www.audiomicro.com/

And this is the license
To get my information I had to go to : https://creativecommons.org/
